Hello Steve, my mum’s laptop can't seem to access the Internet after a windows update on Vista. The laptop is detecting the modem wirelessly and through the LAN cable and it says it connected. When we've run the diagnostics it says it's working correctly. Mine is working fine thought the same connection.

Sorry for the delay, not been in the forums for a couple of days - been xtra busy here killing viruses and sorting other customers comps ready for xmas! I know updates can affect different computers in different ways, my own computer is a pain with certain updates and also looses the network conenctions! Do you know which update caused the problem, if so you can go to add/remove programs and select to remove the offending update. Failing that, I would advise that you do a system restore from before the update, then once done, set the updates not to install automatically but set it download but not install updates, this way you can see what updates are waiting installation.

Hello Steve, turns out it was the Avast anti virus blocking access to the net. When the update was done the box that pops up and says a program is trying to access the net, well my mum just closed it instead of allowing it. Duh, never mind all sorted now thanks.
